This blog was created to ask for help in funding the treatment of Paws dogs that have tested positive for heartworm.  We will continue to have HW positive dogs particularly with the increased mosquito presence in our flood affected area. Heartworm is a deadly condition that is easily preventable but deadly if not treated. The treatment cost is determined by the amount of the injectable required based on the weight of the dog. It is an expensive treatment but People For Paws does not believe that heartworm is a reason to euthanize an adoptable dog as some shelters do due to lack of funds. And, hopefully, we will have a temporary home for each dog to “hang out” while completing the two month treatment. We would love to be able to treat all of the infected dogs right away but with low funds they have to wait. Therefore, if you would like to help us with the treatment of our heartworm positive dogs OR serve as a temporary home for one of these pets we would appreciate it! No donation is too small. You can make donations through PayPal at:

Or you can send them to:

Please give us a note so we know that it is towards the heartworm treatment found.

As always THANK YOU to all of our supporters. Without you we would not be able to help these abandoned animals.

About Hunter:

Hunter has recently tested positive for heartworms. His treatment will be around $300, so we are hoping to raise money for his treatment also. Hopefully as soon as we can get his treatment started and get him healthy we can find this handsome boy his forever family and home.

Updates on Past Heartworm Postive Dogs:

Update (12-15-11): Good news for Dean and Jane! They have been tested to see if their heartworm treatment was successful and they tested negative!! They are now heartworm free!
